In the world of surfing, Bali is renowned for its consistent perfect waves all year round. The swells are generated by the famed roaring forties winds in the southern Indian Ocean. Most of the surfers come to Bali during the dry season May through October when the trade winds out of the southeast blow offshore everyday, grooming the large swells that break on Bali’s reefs and beaches.

Tuban and Kuta – Catering to the expert or the beginner. Kuta offers boat rides to the outer of Tuban or you can just surf the mellow beach breaks in front of the hotels. Legian, Seminyak and Canggu – These areas are just several kilometers north of Kuta. Like its neighboring beaches, these areas offer a paradise for surfers. Bukit Peninsula – Located in the southwest Bali, this is where the famous lefts are found. Nyang Nyang, Padang Padang, Labuan Sait, Bingin, Suluban – Located just a few kilometers north of the Uluwatu Temple, facing the vast Indian Ocean.

The crystal clear of the sea water and the big waves make it one of the best surfing spots in Bali. These waves break on shallow reefs creating the great tube rides sought after by all good gutters throughout the world. If your holiday is during the wet season from November through April, check out waves in Sanur reef, a perfect right which at high tide can be a long hollow performance wave. Close by is Turtle Island – a fun left and right but can get crowded. And if you are on the other side of the Island, there is a place called Medewi beach, located about 72 kilometers west of Denpasar The beach is flat, stony and has long rolling waves. All these spots can produce world class waves and a lifetime of happy memories.

Surfing Tips – Do not forget to bring booties, leashes, wax, sun block, rashguards, first aid kit and of course suriboards for all conditions. Many surf shops in Kuta area will help you with all your surfing needs just in case you forget to bring the equipments. If you arrive without a board, go down to Kuta beach where there is a wide selection of rental surfboards.
